Weekly options also expire every Friday at 08:00 UTC, and daily options every day at the same time. Dates follow Deribit's standard schedule; check the exchange for any change.
An options contract gives the right to buy (call) or sell (put) Bitcoin at a set strike price until the expiry time. Most Bitcoin options trade on Deribit, where they settle in cash against the average BTC index price in the 30 minutes before 08:00 UTC. Contracts that end in the money are paid out; the rest expire worthless.
The max pain price is the strike at which option buyers as a group lose the most money at expiry. Traders watch it because the price sometimes drifts toward it before a big expiry, especially the quarterly ones at the end of March, June, September and December.

The next weekly Deribit expiry is Fri, 2 Oct 2026, 1:30 PM IST (2 Oct 2026, 08:00 UTC). The next monthly expiry is 30 Oct 2026 and the next quarterly expiry is 25 Dec 2026.
Deribit options expire at 08:00 UTC, which is 1:30 PM in India, 4:00 AM in New York (3:00 AM in winter) and 12:00 noon in Dubai. CME Bitcoin options expire at 4:00 PM London time on the last Friday of the month.
The quarterly expiry falls on the last Friday of March, June, September and December. It usually carries far more open interest than a normal monthly expiry, so it gets the most attention from traders and news sites.
Sometimes. Large expiries can pull the price toward the "max pain" level in the days before expiry, and volatility can rise once the contracts settle. The effect is not reliable, so treat it as one input, not a signal. Read options expiry and max pain explained.
