Guides by what you need

How to choose a crypto app in India

  1. Check FIU-IND registration first. Every exchange serving Indians must register with the Financial Intelligence Unit under the PMLA. Unregistered offshore platforms get blocked: 25 were ordered blocked in October 2025 and 15 more apps in September 2026. An unregistered app can vanish overnight with your money. Check the reporting-entities list on fiuindia.gov.in.
  2. Look at how rupees get in and out. Indian apps take UPI and bank transfers directly. Offshore exchanges like Binance use P2P, which carries a risk of bank account freezes.
  3. Compare total cost, not the headline fee. Add trading fees, 18% GST on fees, INR withdrawal charges, crypto withdrawal fees and any inactivity fee.
  4. Read the security record. WazirX (2024) and CoinDCX (2025) were both hacked, with very different outcomes for users. Prefer apps that publish proof of reserves.
  5. Decide if you need to withdraw crypto. CoinSwitch doesn't allow crypto withdrawals; Mudrex charges 2%. If you want a self-custody wallet, that narrows the list.

Our picks by use case

  • First purchase, stay in rupees: CoinSwitch
  • Everything in one app, including INR futures and options: CoinDCX
  • Frequent trader on a budget: WazirX (₹99/month ZERO plan)
  • Cautious long-term buyer: ZebPay
  • Diversified baskets: Mudrex
  • Options trader: Delta Exchange

Tax is the same everywhere

Changing apps doesn't change your tax. Crypto profits are taxed at a flat 30% (plus cess), with no deduction except the cost of buying and no set-off of losses, and a 1% TDS applies when you sell. From 1 April 2026 these rules sit in the new Income-tax Act, 2025, the TDS rule formerly in Section 194S is now Section 393(1), but the rates did not change. FIU-registered Indian exchanges deduct the TDS for you, see crypto tax in India and the tax calculator.

Apps we don't include, and why

OKX stopped serving India in 2024 and is not FIU-registered. Bitbns has a reported history of long INR withdrawal delays and a 2022 hack it did not disclose at the time, so we don't recommend it. KuCoin and Bybit are FIU-registered offshore exchanges that, like Binance, fund INR mainly through P2P; Bybit also suffered the largest crypto hack on record ($1.5 billion, February 2025). Unocoin and Giottus are smaller registered Indian exchanges we may review later.

Keep your risk in check

Whichever app you pick, keep only what you trade on the exchange, turn on two-factor authentication, never share OTPs, and download apps only from official stores, scammers impersonate every brand on this page. Before trading, read risk management & position sizing, and see our best crypto in India guide and live crypto prices in INR.

Frequently asked questions

Which is the best crypto app in India?

It depends on what you want to do. CoinSwitch is simplest for beginners, CoinDCX has the widest range of INR products, WazirX is cheapest for frequent traders with its ₹99/month plan, ZebPay has the longest clean track record, and Delta Exchange is built for options traders.

Which crypto exchange is safest in India?

No exchange is risk-free. Look for FIU-IND registration, published proof of reserves and a clean security record. ZebPay and CoinSwitch have no hacks of their own on record; CoinDCX covered its 2025 hack loss so customers lost nothing.

Are crypto apps legal in India?

Yes. Buying, selling and holding crypto is legal, and exchanges must register with FIU-IND. Crypto is not legal tender and is not regulated by SEBI or the RBI as an investment product.

Which crypto app has the lowest fees in India?

For frequent traders, WazirX's ₹99/month ZERO plan. For derivatives, Delta Exchange publishes 0.02%/0.05% futures fees. Binance charges 0.1% on spot but funds INR only through P2P.

Yes. Every app here also runs in a web browser, so you can trade on a Windows or Mac computer without installing anything. Binance also has an official desktop app. See crypto apps for Android, iPhone and PC.

Do all Indian crypto apps deduct 1% TDS?

FIU-registered Indian exchanges deduct the 1% TDS on sells automatically. On offshore exchanges and P2P trades, more of the responsibility falls on you.
