WazirX was India's best-known exchange until a $235 million hack in July 2024 froze withdrawals for over a year. After a Singapore court approved its restructuring, trading restarted in October 2025. Here is where it stands now.
WazirX is operating again, with new custody partners and the lowest costs for frequent traders thanks to a flat ₹99/month plan. But users lost about 15% of their holdings in the hack and waited more than a year for the rest; weigh that history before keeping large balances there.

On 18 July 2024 attackers drained about $235 million from one of WazirX's multisig wallets, the largest hack of an Indian exchange. WazirX froze withdrawals and sought protection from creditors through a restructuring scheme in Singapore, where its operating company, Zettai, is based. Creditors approved the plan by a wide margin and the Singapore High Court sanctioned it on 13 October 2025. Users received roughly 85% of their balances, plus recovery tokens that pay out if more funds are recovered.
Trading restarted on 24 October 2025, with custody moved to BitGo and Fireblocks. WazirX says 95% of traders since the restart were returning users.
Since December 2025 WazirX has offered WazirX ZERO: pay ₹99 a month (plus GST) and trade without per-trade fees. Without the plan, INR-market fees run from 0.10% to 0.40% depending on volume. For someone trading ₹1 lakh a month or more, the flat plan is usually the cheapest deal among Indian apps. In May 2026 it added INR-settled perpetual futures on BTC and ETH with up to 10x leverage at 0.02%/0.04% fees.
WazirX is FIU-registered and has new custody partners, but its record is the worst of the major Indian apps. The sensible approach, whichever exchange you use, is to keep only your trading balance on the exchange and hold long-term coins in a wallet you control.
