Unocoin review 2026: fees, safety and who it suits

Unocoin started selling Bitcoin in India in 2013, before any of today's big apps, and is still run by co-founder and CEO Sathvik Vishwanath. It stays focused on Bitcoin: a Systematic Buying Plan from ₹10, Lightning Network payments and, since July 2026, INR futures. Here is what it costs and where it falls short.

Verdict in short

A reasonable choice for small, regular Bitcoin buying through its ₹10 SIP. For anything else it lags: instant buys cost 0.5% to 0.7% plus a wide spread, only a handful of coins were tradable when we checked, and its last proof of reserves dates from June 2023.

Our score: 6.5/10 (#12 of 12)

Unocoin ranks #12 of 12 in our best crypto app in India ranking for 2026. Just above it is KuCoin (6.9). Every app is scored on the same seven tests (how we score).

What you can do on Unocoin

Unocoin is built around Bitcoin. Its Systematic Buying Plan (SBP) buys Bitcoin or Ether for you daily, weekly or monthly from as little as ₹10, with no transaction fee on the SIP itself (how crypto SIPs work). It supports the Bitcoin Lightning Network for fast, cheap transfers, lets you send coins free to other Unocoin users by mobile number, and offers crypto baskets and USDT loans against Bitcoin. In July 2026 it added INR perpetual futures on 14 coins with leverage capped at 5x.

When we checked, Unocoin listed about 95 coins, but only Bitcoin, Ether and USDT were open for spot trading. Check the app before you plan around any other coin.

Fees

The quick buy and sell buttons are the expensive route: 0.5% for Bitcoin and 0.7% for Ether and USDT, plus 18% GST, and the instant buy and sell prices sit well apart, which is a hidden cost of its own. The order book is cheaper at 0.2% maker and 0.3% taker. Futures cost 0.05% maker and 0.1% taker. Since March 2023 inactive accounts pay a custody fee of 0.0001 BTC a month, so do not leave a small balance sitting untouched. Compare costs across apps in the lowest fee crypto exchange in India.

Is Unocoin safe?

Unocoin is registered with FIU-IND and deducts the 1% TDS on sales. Its record has two marks. In 2017 hackers stole 60.6 BTC from Unocoin, a theft police later linked to the wider Karnataka Bitcoin scam case; we could not confirm whether any customer lost money. In October 2018 Bengaluru police seized Unocoin’s Bitcoin ATM kiosk and arrested its co-founders for running it without approval. Its only published proof-of-reserves audit, from June 2023, showed customer holdings of about ₹183.7 crore fully covered, with most Bitcoin in cold storage; it has not been updated since.

Who should use Unocoin?

People who want to put a small fixed amount into Bitcoin every day or week and hold it, ideally moving it to a wallet you control. For more coins, lower costs or deeper markets, look at CoinDCX, CoinSwitch or ZebPay.
