Key takeaways

  • TabTrade is a forex and CFD broker, not a crypto exchange: crypto on TabTrade means CFDs, so you never own the coins.
  • It is licensed offshore, in Mauritius (FSC licence GB26206419), with a second company in Saint Lucia. It is new: it launched in March 2026.
  • Accounts start at $0 (Standard) and leverage goes up to 1:1000 on every account.
  • For Indian residents, RBI allows forex trading only through authorised persons and platforms, and the LRS does not allow margin to be sent abroad.
  • To buy and hold real crypto in India, use an FIU-registered exchange instead.

Is TabTrade legal in India?

TabTrade's legal position for Indian residents is restricted by RBI rules, not by TabTrade. The Reserve Bank of India says residents may undertake forex transactions only with authorised persons and for permitted purposes under the Foreign Exchange Management Act, 1999 (FEMA), and only on electronic trading platforms authorised by the RBI or on NSE, BSE and the Metropolitan Stock Exchange. Residents who trade forex on unauthorised platforms make themselves liable to penal action under FEMA.

RBI also says that money sent abroad as margin to overseas exchanges or counterparties is not allowed under the Liberalised Remittance Scheme (LRS). TabTrade's regulation page lists its Mauritius and Saint Lucia companies only; it does not say it is authorised by the RBI. You can check the RBI's lists of authorised persons and authorised electronic trading platforms on rbi.org.in.

The RBI keeps an Alert List of unauthorised forex platforms and of websites that promote them. Its last update before this review, on 19 November 2025, named 95 entities, before TabTrade launched, so TabTrade is not on it. The RBI says the list is not exhaustive and that a platform missing from it should not be assumed to be authorised.

TabTrade is also not one of the 54 crypto service providers registered with FIU-IND (Lok Sabha answer, 30 March 2026). That registration applies to crypto exchanges, and TabTrade's crypto products are CFDs, not coins. If you want to own crypto, see the FIU-registered crypto exchanges in India and our guide to whether crypto is legal in India.

How 1:1000 leverage works

TabTrade's maximum leverage of 1:1000 means $10 of your own money (the margin) opens a position worth $10,000. A 0.1% price move in your favour doubles the margin, and a 0.1% move against you wipes it out. Major forex pairs often move more than that in a single hour. For comparison, UK and EU regulators cap leverage for retail clients at 1:30 on major currency pairs.

TabTrade's own risk warning says leveraged trading carries the possibility of losses that may exceed your initial investment. If you do trade CFDs, use far lower leverage than the maximum, set a stop-loss on every trade, and only risk money you can afford to lose. Our guide to leverage in crypto trading explains liquidation in more detail.

TabTrade pros and cons

TabTrade's strengths and weaknesses, as they apply to a reader in India.

  • Pro: no minimum deposit on the Standard and Cent accounts, and a free demo account to practise first.
  • Pro: MetaTrader 5, cTrader and a web platform, so you can use the widely known MT5 charts and order tools.
  • Pro: a licensed company in Mauritius (FSC licence GB26206419).
  • Con: it is new, launched in March 2026, so it has little track record.
  • Con: its licences are offshore, and TabTrade does not advertise an investor compensation scheme.
  • Con: leverage of up to 1:1000 makes it very easy to lose a deposit quickly.
  • Con: for Indian residents, RBI rules on forex trading and the LRS limit how it can be used, and it is not registered with FIU-IND.
  • Con: crypto is offered only as CFDs, so you cannot hold or withdraw coins.

How to open a TabTrade account

TabTrade's sign-up takes a few steps, and you can start with the demo account before risking money.

  1. Open TabTrade's sign-up page (sponsored link) and create an account.
  2. Verify your identity and proof of address, which TabTrade requires before live trading.
  3. Choose an account type (Standard needs no minimum deposit) and set your leverage well below the maximum.
  4. Practise on the demo account, then download MetaTrader 5 or use the WebTrader.

Indian residents should read the RBI section above first. Profits from overseas trading are taxable in India, and a resident's overseas trading account generally has to be reported in Schedule FA of the income tax return; ask a chartered accountant how CFD gains are taxed.

TabTrade FAQ

Is TabTrade legal in India?

TabTrade is an overseas broker, and RBI says Indian residents may trade forex only with authorised persons, on RBI-authorised electronic trading platforms or on NSE, BSE and MSE. Residents who trade forex on unauthorised platforms can face penalties under FEMA, and the Liberalised Remittance Scheme does not allow money to be sent abroad as margin. TabTrade does not say it is authorised by the RBI.

Is TabTrade regulated?

Yes, offshore. TabTrade (Mauritius) Ltd is licensed by the Financial Services Commission of Mauritius as an Investment Dealer, licence GB26206419, and TabTrade Ltd is registered in Saint Lucia (2025-00919). It is not regulated in India and is not registered with FIU-IND.

What is the minimum deposit at TabTrade?

$0 on the Standard account, and no minimum on the Cent and Swap-Free accounts. The Edge account needs $250 and the VIP account $25,000, as listed on 5 October 2026.

What leverage does TabTrade offer?

Up to 1:1000 on every account type. At 1:1000, $10 of margin opens a $10,000 position, so a 0.1% price move against you wipes out that margin. UK and EU rules cap retail forex leverage at 1:30.

Is TabTrade the same as TabTrader?

No. TabTrade is a forex and CFD broker that launched in March 2026. TabTrader is a separate crypto charting and exchange-aggregator app.

Can I buy real bitcoin on TabTrade?

No. TabTrade offers crypto CFDs, which are bets on the price: you never own the coins and cannot withdraw them to a wallet. To own crypto in India, use an exchange registered with FIU-IND.
